Members of Bataan Mayors’ League on Thursday pressed the Peninsula Electric Cooperative (Penelco) to review its financial transactions more particularly on granting consultancy fee to its consultants.
The mayors who attended the monthly league meeting held at the Government Center in Pilar town were Charlie Pizarro (host), Cynthia L. Estanislao, M.D., Ace Jello Concepcion, Robin Tagle, Efren Pascual, Jr., Tong Santos, Ramil del Rosario, and Tonypep Raymundo, league president. They were joined by Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia in grilling Penelco Gen. Manager Elaine de Guzman on the power firm’s operation which received numerous complaints resulting from frequent unannounced power outages. The mayor said the frequent brownouts have affected the residents’ way of life and business operations.
The mayors aired their respective concerns in their municipalities — from defective transformers to aging electric posts and fluctuating electricity. De Guzman for her part reasoned that in some instances power failures occur when there is an on-going problem in the power generating plant. Mayor Pizarro twitted Ms. De Guzman on huge amount of consultancy fee of P4.6 million a year for a contract of five years. “Baka naman po puwedeng pag-aralan nyo ang tungkol sa consultancy,” Pizarro gingerly told De Guzman.
